About

The Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication (CARIMAC) at the University of the West Indies Mona Campus (UWI Mona) added the Multimedia or New Media to its list of offered specialisations in 2000.

Multimedia itself is the preparation of media messages for delivery mainly via the Internet, but also through other visual channels such as television.

It integrates various media elements like text, graphics, animation and audio and video with computer interactivity.

Unlike the other CARIMAC specialisations, Multimedia is the only specialisation catering to students who want to explore graphic design, motion graphics, image manipulation, 3D animation, web page design and web development and the application of these skills.

It is a computer-based design course that does not require students to be professional artists, but they must develop an eye for design.

With a Media and Communications degree specialising in Multimedia, students can pursue job roles as a web or graphic designer, a graphic artist, a photographer, a video editor or a content management professional.
